The consonants may be classified in several ways, from which:

1. by articulation point:
  • labial: p, b
  • dental - alveolar: t, d
  • palatal: j
2. by articulation manner:
  • plosive: p, b, t, d, k, g
  • fricative: f, v, s, z, ş, h
  • nasal: m, n
3. by the vibration of vocal chords
  • voiceless: p, t, k, f, s, ş
  • voiced: b, d, g, v, z, m, n
4. liquid consonants: l, r

5. consonant groups:
  • ce, ci
  • ge, gi
  • che, chi
  • ghe, ghi
