Archive of the Romanian Language Sounds - Goals

In the future, we intend to set up an archive of the Romanian language sounds with the following characteristics:
  1. Database for both professional (perfect) and non-professional (ordinary people' s) utterances in Iasi and then, in as much as possible, for sounds specific to other Romanian regions.
  2. On that basis, a vast statistic study on Romanian sounds including for example "the triangle of Romanian formants", "statistic features of regional utterances" etc.
  3. Corrections to some systems of non-concatenative synthesis relying on the information in the database.
  4. Improvements to some systems of acoustic recognition relying on the information in the database. (The archive may become, we hope, a testing bench for such systems.)
  5. Language database (sounds) for various pathologies (neurological, laryngeal, nasal, buccal, respiratory). This database may be partially used for CEEX grant researches.
  6. Syllable-type and word-type database (source for concatenative synthesizers and testing bench for systems of word recognition).
  7. E-dictionary of Romanian utterances. Colligation with the Romanian Language Atlases (some of us being already engaged in this work). The sound/ utterance databases would consist of sounds in various formats (ogg included). Some files are already available in both 16 bits and 24 bits formats.
  8. A reference page displaying the titles of all papers and books dealing with the Romanian language sounds (phonetics. synthesis, recognition, etc).
We invite you to join the already established group in order to help them achieve their goals. We are well aware that our results are still very modest and we do need your help. Any criticism, whatever virulent, will be duly appreciated if they are constructive. Any support and collaboration proposition will be highly appreciated. Please send us, on the (double) address hteodor@etc.tuiasi.ro, mferaru@etc.tuiasi.ro, the list of your papers related to this field so that the titles may be displayed on the reference page. The order should be:

NAME1, First name1, NAME2, First name2, ..., Title, Review or Volume, (review: volume 4 (2003), no. 2, pp. 231-243).
