About the archive

The Romanian Language has no free web-based sound archive so far. Most European languages have such archives. The lack is felt both in research and teaching activities. Therefore, we took the initiative to build a sound archive.

For the moment, our goals are quite limited. We achieved a small archive, with no special recording qualities (see Recording Protocol). The archive is available here. Its webpage is in the initial stage.

This site was conceived in order to host a "dictionary of sounds" for the Romanian language. The site content may be used for free for educational and research purposes, provided that credit is given appropriately.

The project authors are:
The site was created through the co-operation of:
  • Romanian Academy, Institute for Computer Science, Group for Spoken Language Processing;
  • "Al. I. Cuza" University, Iaşi - Faculty of Computer Science, Discipline of "Speech and Voice Technology" (Prof. Horia-Nicolai Teodorescu);
  • "Gh. Asachi" Technical University, Iaşi, Center for Excellence in research "CERFS" (Director Prof. Horia-Nicolai Teodorescu).
Some information on this site was taken from the quoted references.

Goals (detailed in Romanian Language Sounds Archive - Programme):
  1. provide researchers and students with a database of medium quality.
  2. international recognition of the Romanian Language Phonation
  3. initiate of the National Web Archive for the Romanian Language
Previous researches related to Databases for the Romanian language (pdf).
